David Greco & Erin Helyard

Thursday 20 October 8:00pm | Saturday 22 October 8:00pm

Christ Church, Longford

David Greco and Erin Helyard perform the two great song-cycles of Schubert that spanned his brief and exceptional career: Die Schöne Müllerin was written when the first symptoms of Schubert’s syphilis had appeared and the final proofs of Die Winterreise were completed on his death bed, five years later. The Sydney Morning Herald has written that the duo “achieve the paradox of sounding fresh and innovative via historical research that takes them closer to Schubert’s sound world” and Loudmouth says that “Helyard and Greco’s Die schöne Müllerin is that rarest of things: a familiar work imagined anew.” Drawing on their shared love of the sublime singing documented on early recordings and their passion for nineteenth-century expressive practices, these performances will rekindle your love for the greatest of all the Romantic lieder composers.
